Professor Oluseyi A. Shadare was born over six decades ago in the vibrant city of Lagos, Nigeria. He holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in History and a Master’s degree in Industrial Relations from the prestigious University of Ibadan, Nigeria. He later earned his Ph.D. from the same institution, specializing in Human Resource Management. Driven by a keen interest in law, he pursued a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree at the University of Lagos. He then attended the Nigerian Law School in Kano and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2006.
Professor Shadare is currently a faculty member in the Department of Employment Relations and Human Resource Management at the University of Lagos and also teaches at the University of Lagos Business School (ULBS). Despite earning his Ph.D. over 30 years ago, he initially pursued a career in the financial services sector, where he gained more than 18 years of experience. He rose to the position of Director at Industrial and General Insurance Plc. (IGI), one of the largest financial services and risk management firms in Nigeria and West Africa, before resigning in 2010.
With extensive expertise in Human Resource Management, Industrial Relations, Insurance Marketing, Labour Law, and Public Policy, Professor Shadare is a distinguished academic and practitioner. He currently teaches undergraduate, graduate, and executive-level courses at the University of Lagos. His research interests include Industrial Relations, Human Resource Management, and Employment Relations, and he has published numerous peer-reviewed articles, essays, book chapters, and conference papers.
Professor Shadare is an Associate Member of several professional bodies, including the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPMN) and the Chartered Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (CIMN). He is also a member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA). In addition, he is an Accredited Management Trainer in Nigeria, for the Centre for Management Development–Nigeria’s premier institution for management development, training, and consultancy services.
He has served in and still serves in various administrative roles both within and outside the university. He served as the Assistant Coordinator of the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program at the University of Lagos from 2012 to 2015, and as Coordinator of the M.Sc., MILR, and MELS programs in his department from 2016 to 2018. From 2019 to 2021, he served as the Acting (Ag.) Head of the Department of Employment Relations and Human Resource Management of the University of Lagos. Additionally, he was a Member of the Governing Council of Crawford University, Igbesa, Ogun State, from 2006 to 2010, and is currently a Board Member of UNILAG Consult Ltd and Chairman, University of Lagos Multimedia Ventures Board.
A prolific writer and researcher, Professor Shadare has over 50 publications in local and international journals. To date, he has supervised more than 300 students across B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. programs in the Department of Employment Relations and Human Resource Management at UNILAG. He also serves as an Associate Lecturer and External Examiner at several universities in Nigeria.
Beyond academia, Professor Shadare is a Director in several blue-chip companies in Nigeria and serves as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Dorean Schools. He is happily married with children.
