Dr. Mutiu Sunmonu

Dr. Mutiu Sunmonu, CON is an accomplished Oil & Gas professional with extensive experience and a proven record of performance both locally and internationally. He retired from the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) in 2015 after 36 years of meritorious service.

Until his retirement, Dr. Sunmonu served as Managing Director of SPDC and Vice President, Production Sub-Saharan Africa, as well as Country Chair of the Shell Companies in Nigeria—positions he held concurrently from January 1, 2008 and January 1, 2010, respectively.

He holds a First-Class degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Lagos and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Harvard Business School. He is a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE).

A respected private sector leader, Dr. Sunmonu continues to provide strategic leadership and professional guidance to established and emerging businesses. He sits on the boards of several companies, including SanLeon Energy (UK), Petralon Energy Limited, and Imperial Homes Mortgage Limited. He is Chairman of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc and Coronation Insurance Plc and serves as an Independent Non-Executive Director of Unilever Nigeria Plc.

Dr Sunmonu is the Pro-Chancellor of McPherson University and a member of the Advisory Board of the Citadel School of Government.
