B. O. Oke is a Professor of Finance whose scholarly work centers on development finance and financial markets, with a particular interest in how financial systems can serve as drivers of inclusive economic growth and sustainable development in emerging economies. His academic journey has been guided by a central question: how financial innovation, regulation, and market access can be effectively aligned to support broad-based and sustainable development.

With a strong academic foundation in finance and economics and over two decades of professional and research experience, Professor Oke has developed a comprehensive perspective on global financial systems. His research has explored a wide range of issues including access to finance for underserved populations, financial innovation, capital market development, private sector growth, and the role of financial institutions in facilitating structural economic transformation. His work has been published in reputable international journals and presented at major academic conferences, contributing meaningfully to both scholarly discourse and policy discussions in the field of development finance.

In addition to his research contributions, Professor Oke is deeply committed to teaching, mentorship, and academic leadership. At the University of Lagos, he has taught courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, supervised doctoral research, and contributed to curriculum development in finance and development economics. He views education not merely as a means of transmitting knowledge but as a powerful instrument for empowerment and social impact. Through mentoring students and early-career researchers, he continues to nurture the next generation of finance professionals and scholars.

Professor Oke has also played important administrative and governance roles within the university. He served as the Acting Head of the Department of Finance at the University of Lagos between 2020 and 2022, providing leadership in academic planning and departmental development. Since August 2023, he has been a Board Member of University of Lagos Consultancy Services Limited (UNILAG Consult), where he contributes to strengthening the university’s engagement with industry and consultancy services. Prior to this, he served as a Board Member of the Human Resources Development Centre (HRDC), University of Lagos, from 2021 to July 2023.

His academic excellence has been recognized internationally through several awards, including Best Paper Awards at conferences organized by the International Academy of African Business and Development (IAABD). He received one such award at the 11th IAABD Conference held between May 18 and May 22, 2010, and another at the 9th IAABD Conference hosted by the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, United States, between May 19 and May 24, 2008.

Professor Oke’s research contributions span several areas within finance and development economics. His recent publications examine themes such as environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance among manufacturing firms in Nigeria, the relationship between oil prices and energy intensity, cryptocurrency investment behavior among Nigerian investors, the impact of agency banking on financial inclusion, and the effects of financial innovation in payment systems on bank performance. His work has appeared in international journals including the Journal of Southwest Jiaotong University, Journal of Business and Social Sciences, Journal of Internet and Digital Economics, Small Enterprises Development, Management & Extension Journal, and the Journal of Economics and Management.

Professor Oke maintains an active network of scholarly collaboration both within Nigeria and internationally. His collaborators include Oluwaseun F. Ayadi and J. Williams of Texas Southern University, T. M. Obamuyi of the Federal University of Technology Akure, F. Ikpesu of the Pan-Atlantic University, and S. O. Ojogbo of the University of Lagos.

Through his teaching, research, and institutional service, Professor Oke continues to advance scholarship in development finance and financial markets, promoting research and policy dialogue that emphasizes inclusive financial systems and sustainable economic development. He remains committed to fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and innovative academic approaches that strengthen the role of finance as a tool for equitable global development.
